Park Shtefan the Greatest
City park
(former Pushkin) is a traditional place of rest, walks and meetings of the Chisinau
citizens. This green tract in the center of capital exists since 1818; its area
is 7 hectares. In the center of the park on a granite column the bronze bust
of A. S. Pushkin is established, it’s a work of sculptor A. M. Opekushin. Also
there is a big fountain in the center of the park.
Here begins the Classics Alley decorated with bronze busts of remarkable Moldavian
writers and cultural workers. At the entry of the park from the part of the
Great Assembly Square the Monument of Moldavian king Stefan the Greatest is
established.
The Cathedral Square
The
square is located in the city center; its southwest side joins to the Great
Assembly Square and borders upon it at all its extent. The Cathedral Square
has 8 entrances. The direct alleys lead from the entrances to the open space
in front of the Cathedral. The park was established in 1836, and now its area
constitutes 9 hectares. At winter, during the season holidays, the park becomes
the festive place where the main city’s New Year's tree is dressed up and national
festivals are carried out.
Park «Valea Morilor»
The park
complex Valea Morilor (Valley of Mills) has the area of 114 hectares and it
is located in the southwestern part of the city. It lies in a place with an
interesting and original relief. The project of the park landscape was developed
by a group of architects managed by architect R. Kurz in 1951.
At the center of landscape composition there is a lake, which area is 34 hectares.
Around the lake there is a ring alley 2,5 kilometers in length. Approximately
the half of the park territory is covered with green plantings.
Valea Morilor is a multipurpose park. In its territory Green theatre for 5 thousand
places, Amusement Park "Aventura", boat station, beach, volleyball
platforms and badminton courts are situated. Free trade zone and exhibition
halls "Мoldexpo" where traditionally the largest exhibitions in Moldova
take place adjoin the park.
Park «Valea Trandafirilor»
Park Valea
Trandafirilor (the Valley of Roses) decorates the southeastern part of city.
Long ago here a natural green tract with area of 145 hectares, alternating with
plantations of roses, was located. Shabby earthen dams partitioned off the fast
stream, forming a cascade of ponds. At the end of 1960s accomplishment of the
park began. Dams were fortified, lakes were cleared from silt, and new alleys
were laid. Now the central part of park is decorated with a host of lakes, the
area of water is 9 hectares. About 50 kinds of trees and bushes grow in the
park. There is an open-air stage for 1000 places, small amusement park with
a Ferris wheel, game-machines hall, restaurants "Doina", "The
Old Fortress" and "The Hunting court".
Park «La Izvor»
The park «La Izvor» («At a spring ») is the newest park of Chisinau, it has
been established in 1972. It is located on the northwest departure of the city
along the Calea Iesilor street. The area of the park is 150 hectares. Composition
of the park is defined with a cascade of ponds connected by channels. The basic
breeds of trees growing here are: acacia, maple, birch, and poplar. The direct
alley leads to an original bridge, from which you can see the island of fairy
tales destined for the rest of children. In territory of the park there is a
restaurant «La Izvor».
Park «Gidigich»
Park is situated in 12 km to northwest of Chisinau, on a coast of Gidigich
storage pond. Its area is about 1000 hectares, 124 of them are covered with
green plantings.
The park was established in the beginning of 1960s for recovering and sports
purposes. Up to 30 thousand persons can rest here at the same time. For convenience
of the resting people comfortable beach, base for water sports, boat station
and fishing base were organized in the park’s territory. Several years ago the
storage pond has become the favorite place of the Chisinau windsurfing fans.
Park «Alunelul»
Park Alunelul is a small and cozy park in the western part of city. Its area
is 11 hectares. It was established in the beginning of 1960s in the place of
the old Jewish cemetery. From the southern side, the Palace of tennis adjoins
the park.
Park «Ryshkani»
The park divides two city districts: Ryshkani and Chiocana. Area of the park
is 32 hectares. It has been established in 1970 on the basis of a natural green
tract. In the park the local breeds of trees prevail: white acacia, silvery
linden, pyramidal poplar and weeping willow. In the center of the park there
is located a picturesque lake, one of the biggest in Chisinau.
